the descendants

i didn't know a lot about the film going in except that it took place in Hawaii, starred George clooney, and that the story captured the relationship between a father and his daughters. i'm a sucker for entertainment that is real, raw and beautifully set-this film did not disappoint! george clooney was subtle in delivering a character that was honest and human. I loved every exchange that his character had, especially with his older daughter. The script was intentional and completely captivated me; and here I am, the day after seeing the film, still stuck in kauaii with the king family!

Earthquake!

Caught one of Brent and my favorite wines on sale today!  Perhaps it became a favorite because it accompanied a perfect dinner together in Denver not too long ago. Earthquake is a full-bodied Cab with hints of black and red fruit flavors- some say it holds notes of olive, chili and herbs. Yum!
Hurry back to Denver, Brent; can't wait to uncork a bottle with you!

French Inspired Bar Stools

I'm excited to have recieved our new mid-century French inspired stools for the new pad.  Our new home has a breakfast bar, and upon first seeing it, my mind went to these oh so charming stools.  I've always admired them but didn't have an excuse for them until now!  The original  Tolix chairs were designed by Xavier Pauchard who initiated the galvanisation techniques in France.  Originally, this seating was used in factories, offices, hospitals and public parks. In the mid 1900s, breweries began to supply them to bars in the in exchange for selling their beer.

And, it was then thereafter that it became commonplace to see them in bars and cafes around France. Love these stools; love all things French!

Bonne nuit!

Gorgeous Day in Denver!

It was an absolutely perfect day in Denver today.  Temps in the mid 80's, beautiful Colorado blue skies and the many splendid fragrances of spring.  Our lilac bush is in full bloom and I stopped to enjoy its perfectly sweet smell countless times today.  It hasn't been every year here in Denver that the lilac bushes have bloomed.  It is quite common that just as it's buds are about to open we will get a huge snow storm. That always makes me sad.  There is something about lilacs that brings me back to my childhood in an instant.  Perhaps it's because for the couple weeks when they were in bloom, my mom would create a huge bouquets of them for the dinning table. I love their delicate flowers that typically are found in the most perfect shade of purple.

Happy spring, everyone!

Sofa Decision.

Brent moved into our new place yesterday- we're excited about this gem of a home that we have found.  Though, until our belongs arrive, Brent will be sleeping on an air mattress and having his dinners while sitting on a Tupperware container.

There are a few things that we'll need to purchase for our new home, including a couch.  I've been on the hunt and have narrowed my search down to three.  I'm looking for a modern-vintage style, as oxymoronic as that sounds.  I love the blending of sweet vintage details, such as tufting, and straight modern lines.

One of my choices is the Loring from Room and Board...

Next, is the Chloe from Macy's...

Finally, the Selby, also from Room and Board...

I'm hoping to make a decision soon so Brent has a comfy place to sit until the rest of our things arrive!

boxes, and tissue, and tape- oh, my!

as our moving day fast approaches, most of my efforts have been in tapering things down to what we are willing to load nearly two-thousand miles across the country.  we've made a half dozen trips to goodwill which feels great!  the thought of some nice things finding that new lease on life, makes me happy.  my mom was out last week and she has helped me put a big dent in packing the things that are worthy of making the trip.  and now, for the next three weeks, i will be living in what i'm calling a facade of a home.  i have a hard time taking the pictures off the walls or the vases off the self, but nearly all the closets and cabinets are emptied.  my bittersweet feelings of both apprehension and excitement are increasing as moving day grows nearer.

any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... it takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.
